I know that people (usually) have the best intentions. However, being Diabetic there are some things you hear over and over again that just make you wonder, why? Here are a few examples of some of the biggest Diabetic pet peeves:
When people tell you what you should and shouldn’t eat.
Being told a story about someone the person knows who died/lost a limb/went blind from their Diabetes.
Being told you can eat a certain way/exercise/take this pill and be cured.
When you are moody and people ask you if your sugar is low.
When people see your pump and tell you it is weird/gross/scary.
Getting asked why you look so normal. (thanks?)
When people without Diabetes tell you how easy it is to take care of your blood sugar levels.
Getting diseases listed to you that are worse than yours.
When people eat a lot of sugar and say “I totally have Diabetes right now”.
Getting asked “So you probably can’t have kids, right?”
Receiving pretty much any unsolicited advice, especially from those without the disease.
And finally, when people say they wish that had Diabetes so they would be able to eat junk all the time too.
I think that pretty much sums it up. Are there any I missed?
Thank you for reading! Hopefully you were either able to relate or learn something new today.
Much love,
Meg.
